Why Firefighting is an Awesome Career Path to Take

Let’s face it, we’re not all 9-5 office people and if you are looking for a career where no two days are ever the same and challenge is a constant companion, consider becoming a firefighter. Learning how to extinguish fires and more importantly, how to rescue people from burning buildings, which is something that requires total dedication. Such is the training that if you don’t have what it takes to become a qualified firefighter, it will quickly become apparent and only those with the right mentality make it through the rigorous selection process.

Life-Saving
There is no better feeling than saving a person’s life and while there will be deaths, you draw from those you save and the intense training kicks in when in a fire situation. Some say the adrenalin is very similar to being in a combat situation and once tasted, a person does what it takes to put themself into a dangerous situation, which brings with it the craved rush of adrenalin.

Discipline
Much like the military, a firefighting team practices constantly, making sure they are ready to go at a minute’s notice and a few seconds could be the difference between life and death. This constant training is an essential aspect of the firefighter’s job and this high level of discipline benefits you in other areas of your life.

Security in Retirement
When thinking of firefighter retirement well-being, it is comforting to know that your pension will offer you a good standard of living and if you take out additional private pensions, you will have a secure retirement.

Giving Back to the Community
When asked why they chose a career as a firefighter, many people say they wanted to give something back to the community that helped them throughout their life. While no one wants to experience fire, accidents do happen and it is comforting to know that there is a team of firefighting professionals waiting for that emergency call. First responders are very much respected within the community, and for good reason, as they are the people who offer lifesaving solutions to those in emergency situations.

The Absence of Boredom
When you become a firefighter, every day is different, with everything from rescuing a kitten from a tree to dealing with a full-on fire in a chemical plant and everything in between. It is the unknown that attracts many people to a career in firefighting, as every day presents new challenges and part of your work is teaching people about fire-prevention, an essential aspect.
